Baby Delivered Safely from Dying Woman’s Womb in Gaza

The Israel-Hamas conflict has cast a shadow over Gaza for half a year. Despite this, a glimmer of hope emerged when a Palestinian woman, tragically killed in an Israeli attack in Rafah, miraculously gave birth to a healthy baby on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the baby was born prematurely, at seven months gestation, through a Caesarian section procedure. Sabreen al-Sakani, identified as the baby’s mother, was critically injured in the head and abdomen during an Israeli attack in Rafah. Despite her condition, she was rushed to the emergency unit of a hospital in Kuwait, where doctors discovered her pregnancy.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the medical team proceeded with the C-section, even in the absence of anesthesia. “It’s a miracle that she was still alive, despite her difficulties in breathing…The mother died 10 minutes after the surgery,” the surgeon said, as quoted by AFP.

The baby was quickly put in an incubator and on oxygen and treatment began as soon as the delivery was over. The team then transferred the neonate to the pediatrics unit of Emirati Hospital in Rafah.

The hospital officials informed that the baby’s sister and father were also brought to the hospital, but were declared dead at the time of arrival. Due to this, the baby will be taken care of by her uncle after her release from the hospital.

“Every day, I go to the hospital to check on my brother’s daughter who was rescued from her mother’s womb…I named her ‘Sabreen al-Ruh’ because her father wanted to name her Ruh,” said the baby’s uncle, Rami al-Sheikh.
