Ajay Devgan’s Film Maidaan Crosses 15 Crore Mark

At the time of release, Ajay Devgn’s film “Maidaan,” directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor, received a lukewarm response at the box office after facing tough competition from Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.” However, the tide appears to have changed for Maidaan on Saturday.

Early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk suggest that the film garnered Rs 5.5 crore on its third day in theaters. This brings “Maidaan’s” total collection to Rs 15.6 crore.

Since Wednesday evening, when the film’s paid previews commenced, “Maidaan” has been progressing sluggishly at the box office. On the first day, it collected Rs 4.5 crore in India, with official figures indicating a worldwide total of Rs 10.70 crore. Day 2 witnessed a noticeable decline in business in India, with earnings dropping to Rs 3 crore.

However, there was a notable surge in footfall on Saturday, with an increase of 83.33%, resulting in earnings of over Rs 5 crore. The overall Hindi occupancy for “Maidaan” stood at 19.65%.

The upswing in Maidaan’s box office earnings can be attributed to the positive word of mouth surrounding the film, especially in comparison to “Bade Miyan Cote Miyan.” The latter, featuring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, has faced criticism from both critics and audiences, impacting its performance at the box office.

“Maidaan” is a biographical drama that narrates the true story of Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film portrays his decade-long journey, showcasing how he revolutionized the sport in India. Alongside Ajay Devgn, the film also stars Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in significant roles.
