More Hundreds of Students Arrested in Universities Across US as Gaza Demonstrations Continue

On Saturday, hundreds more individuals were arrested at college campuses across the United States as student protests against the war in Gaza persisted. Among those detained by police was Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.

Protesters are advocating for institutions to boycott companies and individuals with connections to Israel. However, some Jewish students have raised concerns about alleged antisemitic behavior from certain demonstrators.

According to a spokesperson for Ms. Stein, she was one of approximately 80 people arrested at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. At present, the Green Party presidential candidate is not facing charges, the spokesperson added.

California State Polytechnic is the latest institution to announce a shift to remote teaching due to the ongoing protests. In-person teaching has been disrupted, and graduation ceremonies have been postponed as a result of the demonstrations.

The protests initially began with tents appearing on the college green at Columbia on April 17. Subsequently, the movement spread across the country after law enforcement officers in riot gear were dispatched to clear the tents, resulting in the arrest of over 100 students. Shortly thereafter, students established another protest camp at Yale University in Connecticut.
