Peruvian government claims Marcelino Abad, 124 to be the oldest living person, potentially surpassing verified records. According to the government, Marcelino Abad, a resident of the central Peruvian region of Huánuco, is supposedly 124 years old. If confirmed, this would position him as the oldest living person by a significant margin and potentially surpass the record for the oldest independently verified human.
“Among the tranquility of the flora and fauna of Huánuco, Marcelino Abad Tolentino or ‘Mashico’ developed a healthy way of life and inner peace, reflected in his good health and friendly personality,” the government said in a statement.
“This allowed him, with resilience and skill, to overcome 12 decades of life and on April 5th he just blew out 124 candles.”
Peruvian authorities are assisting Abad in applying to Guinness World Records for independent verification.
In response, a spokesperson from Guinness World Records stated in a written statement that “Guinness World Records regularly receives numerous applications from individuals claiming to be the oldest living person.” Verifying the claim would involve official documents and other evidence being scrutinized by an expert team to “prove their achievement beyond doubt.”, he added.
As of now, the Guinness World Records recognizes the oldest living man as a 111-year-old Briton, who attainted the title earlier this month following the passing of a Venezuelan man aged 114. The oldest living woman is currently 117 years old, while the oldest person ever verified reached 122.
