Amir Sarfaraz Tamba, accused in the brutal murder of Indian prisoner Sarbajit Singh in Lahore in 2013, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Lahore, Pakistan on Sunday as reported by PTI.
Amir Tamba, a trusted aide of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attack was fatally shot by unidentified men riding motorcycles in Lahore’s Islampura locality. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, but unfortunately, his condition was critical and he passed away at the time of arrival.
The killing took place six years after Tamba and Mudassar were acquitted by a Pakistani court due to a “lack of evidence” and witnesses turned hostile.
Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Bhikhiwind in Punjab who mistakenly crossed over to Pakistan, was later sentenced to death for his alleged involvement in bomb blasts in Pakistan’s Punjab province in 1990, despite consistent denials of the charge by the Indian government.
Imprisoned in Lahore’s high-security Kot Lakhpat Jail, Singh suffered a vicious attack by fellow inmates wielding bricks and rods. He succumbed to cardiac arrest in Jinnah Hospital Lahore in the early hours of May 2, 2013, after remaining in a coma for nearly a week due to the severe assault.
However, Swapandeep Kaur, Sarabjit Singh’s daughter said that she wasn’t satisfied hearing about Amir’s murder. At first, she felt satisfied but she said that it was “not justice”. What we wanted was a trial to ascertain why my father was killed.”
